Nothing can stand in the way of a Challenger® SP185C equipped with a rotary disc header ... including a tight schedule. Choose from three different header models, including the DKHC12, with its 12-foot (3.7 m) cut, and Challenger’s new DKHD and DKHDT RazorBar™ disc headers that cut a 16-foot (4.9 m) swath through the toughest crop conditions at speeds and efficiencies other headers can’t begin to match.
DKHDT and DKHD Series disc headers feature a one-piece mainframe for added strength and a rugged modular spur-gear design, which allows all gears to be individually removed through the top of the cutterbar without splitting the bar. That translates into less downtime, lower repair costs and more productivity. The spur gear design also allows the cutterbed profile to be thinner for closer cutting.
Fact is, Challenger rotary disc headers slice through lush alfalfa just as smoothly and cleanly as they do through tall, tangled grass. In addition, header speed can be adjusted independently of engine speed — from 1,800 to 2,600 rpm — for greater fuel efficiency, or to match varying crop conditions.
As the newest advancement in disc headers, Challenger’s new 16-foot RazorBar models also feature larger cutting discs, faster tip speed and increased disc overlap for improved cut quality. Their new Sisu-made cutterbed gears, which are set in individually segmented modules, are also designed to handle maximum torque loads, 100 percent of the time.
While the DKHD16 model features a single set of steel-on-steel herringbone conditioner rolls, the DKHDT16 model incorporates Challenger’s innovative TwinMax™ conditioner, which utilizes not one, but two separate sets of steel-on-steel rolls positioned in-line for double conditioning. Both sets of rolls are hydraulically tensioned and individually adjustable, giving the operator a near infinite level of adjustments and conditioning action that can be matched to any crop and drying condition.

DKHC Series disc headers feature a rugged spurgear design, which allows each gear assembly and adjacent idler gear to be individually removed through the top of the cutterbar without splitting the bar. That translates into less downtime, lower repair costs and more productivity.
The spur gear design also allows the cutterbed profile to be thinner for closer cutting.
As a new feature on the “C” Series disc headers, the rock guards and skid shoes have been merged into a single, long-wearing plate with a smoother profile. The benefits include a dramatic reduction in mud buildup in damp fields. The one-piece unit also includes an access hole for removing the knife bolt when changing blades.
Header speed can be adjusted independently from the engine speed — from 1,800 to 2,600 rpm — for better fuel efficiency and performance in different crop conditions. The electronically controlled speed sensor also maintains a set header speed as engine speed fluctuates.
Pre-lubricated sealed bearings on all gears provide a longer life while substantially reducing maintenance compared to cutterbeds that require regular oil checks.
The wide-profile gear teeth have been “shaved” prior to assembly for a better mesh, higher-load carrying capacity, longer life, less contamination and quieter operation.
